Tomorrow marks your first day of school — second grade! Wow, can you believe it? I get it, though; the thought of going back to class may not have you jumping for joy. You’d much rather be out playing baseball or having a soccer shoot-out with friends. Or maybe you’d prefer sorting through your collection of sports cards, diving off the pool’s high board (for what feels like the millionth time), or getting lost in a world of superheroes and magical adventures on the screen.
You likely want to spend the day exploring under the back porch for cool bugs and rocks, riding your bike, or enjoying popsicles with your cousins at the lake. This summer has been filled with those delightful moments, and it’s hard to let go. But alas, the summer days are behind us, and it’s time to hit the books again. I’m genuinely excited for you — it fills my heart with joy, knowing that you’ve experienced such a magical summer. However, a new journey awaits you as school begins.
Before we dive in, let me share a few important secrets you should always keep in mind.
Secret #1: Superheroes Are All Around Us
Superheroes aren’t just limited to comic books and movies. They’re all around us! Did you know that? Your teacher is a real-life superhero, equipped with a cape made of patience and a bag of magical lessons in math, science, and kindness. A true superhero is anyone who makes a difference in someone else’s life. So, be kind, listen, and help your teacher with her crucial work. When you do, you’re channeling your own superhero powers too!

When challenges arise — and they will — a few good, deep breaths can work wonders. You’re such a kind and energetic soul, but you’re also sensitive, just like me. Remember, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes. Whether it’s a tricky math problem or feeling hurt by someone, stay calm, take a breath, and remember that your dad and I are always with you. Even if it’s just a bit of lint in your pocket, our support is there. When things feel tough, listen to your heart. You’ll always find your way.
