This Video of a Spider Carrying a Mouse Will Leave You Wanting to Torch Everything

This morning, as I sat down in front of my laptop, I opened an email from my editor at Home Insemination Kit. She excitedly wrote, “Did you catch this?!” and shared a link to a jaw-dropping video. To be honest, I hadn’t seen it and had no plans to. But here I am, compelled to write about it because, well, job.

In the video, a massive Huntsman spider is seen carrying a mouse, and it’s enough to send chills down anyone’s spine. “These spiders can be quite social, often gathering in groups on dead trees or stumps,” which is just what environmentalists need to say to convince folks to protect the forests. While some may not care about trees, everyone certainly has an opinion about dinner-sized, fast-moving spiders. (Note to self: Avoid the outdoors in Australia.)

What About Their Romantic Lives?

“Unlike other spider species that might munch on their mates, Huntsman spiders are surprisingly affectionate. The Australian Museum notes their mating rituals can last for hours, filled with gentle caresses and displays of interest.” This could very well be their version of beer goggles.

In summary, the sight of a spider dragging a mouse can be both fascinating and terrifying. It’s a reminder that nature can be as daunting as it is beautiful, and perhaps we should keep our distance from these eight-legged creatures.
