I discovered I was expecting in February of 1992, the very day I decided to leave my job as a young attorney to take on the role of Deputy State Director for Bill Clinton’s presidential primary campaign in Massachusetts. After Bill secured the nomination, I transitioned to Issues Director in the state, all while my belly grew larger by the day. Our daughter, Lily, arrived just two days before Bill’s election victory in November 1992. I was even pumping breast milk during the inaugural festivities in D.C. a few months later.
Fast forward to today, Lily, now nearly 24, is working in Brooklyn on the digital advertising team for Hillary for America. Throughout her teenage years, we shared many fall afternoons in New Hampshire during election seasons, waving signs and canvassing door to door while engaging with voters. After her freshman year of college, she joined Obama’s 2012 campaign and, when she expressed interest in taking a lighter course load to stay involved at headquarters in Chicago, I was more than supportive. When Hillary Clinton announced her presidential bid, Lily knew she had to be part of the team.

I vividly remember meeting Hillary back in 1992. She spoke from the steps of a supporter’s home in Brookline, Massachusetts, captivating the small crowd of 40 to 50 people crammed in the hallway. Hillary passionately discussed advocating for those without a voice, emphasizing the significance of women having choices regarding their healthcare. She reflected on her time with the Children’s Defense Fund, championing the rights of children with disabilities. Hillary has dedicated her life to fighting for women and children. Nearly 24 years later, I was excited to contribute to Hillary’s campaign as an organizer for travel to swing states.
It brings me immense joy to see Lily on Hillary’s team today—one of the young, dedicated staffers working tirelessly to amplify Hillary’s message of uplifting all Americans. Back in 1992, email was a novelty, whereas now, Lily and her colleagues leverage advanced analytics to gauge ad response rates. While technology has evolved over the past 24 years, Hillary Clinton’s unwavering commitment to justice and family care remains steadfast.
