As the election draws closer with Trump as the Republican nominee, I feel it’s time to share my thoughts. If Trump wins, I won’t be leaving.
It’s all too easy to vent our frustrations and declare that we’ll escape the country, seeking refuge from his divisive rhetoric and intolerance. The idea of starting anew in a place where reason and acceptance prevail is tempting. Many of us have the means to relocate—jobs, assets, and minimal legal obstacles. But what about those who don’t have those options? Are we really ready to abandon our fellow citizens who may not have the same opportunities?
This nation was built on the promise of opportunity for all. Trump’s campaign is about making America “great again,” but if the sensible and fortunate among us choose to flee, what does that leave for everyone else? I refuse to accept that history will remember us as those who turned away when tyranny threatened to take hold. I won’t give my children a legacy of disappointment, knowing I ran away instead of standing up for my friends and neighbors.
As a white, middle-class woman, I acknowledge the privilege I hold, but it also comes with a responsibility. I may not face the same challenges as others, but I cannot ignore the injustices that surround me. I will not abandon my community when my neighbors are told they can’t use public restrooms safely due to misguided beliefs about gender. I won’t turn my back on friends denied the right to marry the person they love simply because of their gender. I refuse to be complicit in a system built on fear and oppression by leaving when entire communities are marginalized because of their faith.
It’s disheartening to think that we would deny sanctuary to those fleeing violence and starvation while contemplating our own escape from a political leader we disagree with. I will not abandon my country. Instead, I will raise my voice against injustice, fight for equality, and advocate for the rights of those who cannot leave. I will support efforts for education, tolerance, and true progress—everything that could genuinely make our nation great once more.
So, if Trump wins, I will not leave. I will stand firm for those who must stay, and I will fight alongside them.

Summary: In response to the potential election of Trump, I express my commitment to staying and fighting for justice and equality. I recognize my privilege and the responsibility it carries, vowing to advocate for those who are marginalized and to reject the idea of fleeing in the face of adversity.
