Are You a Good Mom or a Great Mom?

After some serious reflection, I’ve come to the conclusion that I proudly belong in the “great mom” category. It wasn’t an overnight realization. Years of experience and four little ones later, here I am, feeling pretty excited about it.

The Good Mom

Good moms seem to have everything in check. They ensure their kids’ hair is neatly combed, their faces are spotless, and they arrive punctually wherever they go. Their children sport wrinkle-free outfits that are free of any stains, and they keep laundry piles to a minimum.

Good moms rise early and burn the midnight oil, often maintaining a clean and organized home. Their babies sleep peacefully through the night, toddlers stay put in their beds, and young ones follow bedtime routines without a hitch. In public, good moms exude calmness; they don’t raise their voices, and you rarely see them needing to repeat themselves.

In short, good moms appear to have it all together, and they earn my utmost respect for it.

The Great Mom

Now, great moms are a different breed altogether. They know that by the time they reach their destination, their kids’ hair will likely be a tangled mess, and they usually arrive fashionably late—about 10 to 12 minutes behind schedule. Great moms always have extra hair ties and wipes handy because, let’s be real, their kids’ faces look messy about 80% of the time.

When it comes to outfits, great moms pull clothes straight from the dryer, sometimes needing to fluff them up a few times, or they dig through the piles of laundry that still need to be put away from last week. Like good moms, great moms also wake early and stay up late, but their homes might be a bit chaotic. They embrace the mess because who really needs perfection anyway?

Getting their kids to bed on time? That’s a challenge! Often, it’s a struggle just to get through bath time and tooth brushing without having to beg or bribe their children to stay in bed for the night. And yes, great moms might raise their voices and aren’t shy about showing their frustration when the circus of parenting spills out into public.

The truth is, great moms recognize that they don’t have everything figured out, and they’re perfectly fine with that. They roll with the punches and welcome the unpredictability of parenting without worrying about how others perceive them.

So, if you ask me, I absolutely love being a great mom.
