A sports medicine physician has captured the internet’s attention with a glimpse of her impressive multitasking skills. Emily Johnson, a physician based in Oklahoma City, found herself in a bit of a pickle when her husband was out of town and her childcare plans for her three-year-old fell through. Instead of staying home, she decided to bring her child along—strapping her little one to her back and heading to work. Oh, and did we mention she’s pregnant too?

Emily shared a photo of herself working at a high school football game on a Facebook group for physician moms, and it quickly gained traction online for its sheer awesomeness. “This picture of me providing sideline coverage for Putnam City North recently went viral,” she wrote. “It’s what happens when you’re 35 weeks pregnant, your husband is away for the weekend, childcare doesn’t work out, and you have a game to cover!”

We’re in awe, as many of us might have chosen to kick our feet up instead, using the classic “I’m pregnant and my babysitter fell through” excuse. But not Emily—she powered through the challenges. “I thought the moms in the group would appreciate seeing a snapshot of our everyday reality,” she shared. “I’m overwhelmed by the positive responses and support from the group. I truly believe it’s possible to achieve a balance between a multifaceted career and personal life, but it takes hard work and some improvisation.”

Emily has faced her share of skepticism along her career path, particularly as a woman and a mother in medicine. “It’s about proving that you can manage multiple responsibilities successfully,” she explained in an interview. When asked if she was concerned about potential criticism for bringing her child to work, she confidently stated, “It didn’t matter to me. Both roles had to be executed well.”

“Worrying about naysayers isn’t my concern; I’m there to support my team, but my daughter’s safety is also my priority,” she clarified. Fortunately, she works in an environment that respects her dual responsibilities, making it easier to juggle both roles.

“It takes a strong community to make this work,” Emily said. Her last-minute childcare situation turned into an opportunity to showcase the incredible lengths moms go to, proving once again that they can handle it all.
