Parents, we did it! Summer has finally come to an end, and it’s time to send the kids back to school. We’re probably wearing expressions similar to teachers at the end of the school year — we’ve witnessed some…interesting moments. Those last few months have felt endless.
It’s no wonder the bus driver is our new best friend. And let’s not even talk about the emotional moment we see that lovely line of cars for drop-off. We’ve made it through another summer, and now school is back in session. Naturally, the funny parents on Twitter fully grasp the joy of this time of year and are sharing their thoughts with the enthusiasm of someone finally free for the first time in three months.
1. They’ll understand someday.
Oh, you’re upset? Too bad for you.
2. Go big or go home.
We live in a Pinterest world, folks. If you’re not posting a beautifully crafted chalkboard to mark the occasion, what are you even doing?
3. Goodbye, kiddos!
Is it wrong to lay out a literal red carpet for the bus driver on the first day? Because if it is, I don’t want to be right.
4. So many repetitions.
Sometimes they don’t want to leave as much as you want them to go.
5. Right where it belongs.
This may sound harsh to new parents, but if you’ve been through this before, you know that the initial “send us money” paperwork is just the beginning. Prepare to be hit up for cash at least 47 more times this school year.
6. Look away, kids.
I look like a hot mess at the bus stop most mornings, so yes, I’ll embrace the selective amnesia about those days.
7. Oops!
You mean you haven’t been keeping a dry-erase calendar all summer, counting down the days until school starts? Oh, awkward. Maybe we can’t be friends.
8. Not a terrible start.
After a summer of wild kids staying up late, it’s a miracle if they make it to the first day of school by lunchtime. Two hours late is the new normal.
9. #Goals
Dear school, it’s been five years. We’ve given all we can give. Now it’s your turn.
10. A rookie mistake.
My kids devoured an entire pack of mini muffins meant for school lunches in just half a day. The label means nothing to them. You’ll need to get a snack safe.
11. It deserves to be celebrated.
Reunited and it feels so good!
12. Because why not?
They spent all summer practicing for a future in farming and sleeping like college kids the week before school starts. And so it goes.
13. We are more than ready.
It’s been a long summer. Good luck, teachers!
