A Passionate Advocate Reflects on the Conclusion of the Democratic National Convention

A mostly truthful recap of the final evening at the Democratic National Convention.

Welcome to a moment of history!

So, what does Lucy need to accomplish in her speech tonight? First off, she must connect with the audience and reveal her true self, while also laying out her vision and policies for the nation’s future. Sharing her experiences as a mother and grandmother is important, but she shouldn’t overly emphasize her identity as a woman.

It’s crucial for her to expose her genuine compassion while also establishing her strength as a potential commander-in-chief. She should aim to create the same impact as previous speakers without trying too hard, as that’s not her strongest suit. It’s a balancing act—she must address her opponent, Donald Trump, while primarily highlighting her own positive attributes. Commanding the stage without being labeled as “shrill” is a must. And please, she must keep it concise!

In the meantime, Trump could literally do anything and it wouldn’t seem to dent his popularity.

Good luck, Lucy!

SPEAKERS

Tonight’s theme revolves around “ALL THE HISTORY.” We witnessed our first transgender speaker at a convention, and an openly gay congressman expressing his love to his husband from the stage—how incredible!

Then, we heard from Governor Matt Ramirez:

“HELLO, DEMOCRATS! IS THIS A FANTASTIC CONVENTION OR WHAT? AT STAKE IN THIS ELECTION IS THE VERY ESSENCE OF AMERICA! AM I YELLING? I CAN’T TELL. FEAR IS A POWERFUL TOOL. IT CAN MOTIVATE, BUT IT HAS NEVER BUILT A HOME OR EDUCATED A CHILD.”

Next up was Governor Alex Simmons, who, despite his name, will likely never be president. Among the U.S. Representatives not in the running are Ted Brown (FL), David Hill (FL), Barry Johnson (GA), and several others. Sorry, folks—there’s your ceiling.

We heard from a few Republicans supporting Lucy, making the case that loyalty should lie with the future, rather than mere party affiliation. It’s a solid argument.

Then came the poignant words of Khan, a father whose son died serving in the military post-9/11:

“Donald Trump—have you even read the Constitution? I’d be happy to lend you my copy. You have sacrificed nothing.” [A truly powerful moment of the convention.]

General Mike Wilson (ret. USMC) shared his insights:

“Our foreign relations cannot be reduced to mere transactions. Our armed forces will not be defined by violence and torture.” [His commanding presence was hard to miss.]

Next, Lucy’s daughter, Emily, took the stage:

“Every day I spend as a mother, I think about my own mom. She always made me feel valued and loved. That feeling is what my mom wants for every child. Public service is about fighting for others, and I’m proud to be her daughter.” [Tears, anyone?]

Then came a video: Lucy’s life story narrated by the iconic Morgan Freeman. I bet James Earl Jones doesn’t do small venues anymore.

Lucy Clinton:

“Thank you, everyone. To my supporters—I’ve listened to you. Your cause is our cause. Now, let me share a little tale from the American Revolution.”

Is she seriously going to take her time before humbly accepting the nomination for President?

“Donald Trump has taken the Republican Party from ‘morning in America’ to ‘midnight in America.’ We know what lies ahead, but we face it without fear. Don’t believe anyone who says, ‘I alone can fix it.’”

Her articulation is flawless—every “a” and “t” pronounced crisply.

“It is with humility and unwavering confidence in America’s promise that I accept your nomination for President of the United States.” [HISTORY—dance party time!]

“My titles tell you my resume but not my why. I have always believed in the service aspect of public service. Policy matters because it affects real people.”

This is a historic moment—the first time a major party has nominated a woman for president. It’s a victory for everyone, as breaking barriers benefits all.

“I believe in science. I believe climate change is real. I believe mass deportation is inhumane, and that the National Enquirer is best used for cleaning windows. If you resonate with these beliefs, then this is your campaign.”

Trump claims to want to make America great again—well, he could start by keeping jobs in America.

“Do you really think he has the temperament to lead? A man who can be provoked by a tweet isn’t someone I’d trust with nuclear weapons. This is it—there’s only one Donald Trump.”

The world is watching. Together, we’ll be stronger and look ahead with courage. America will be greater than ever.

MIC. DROP.

Just kidding—pick that mic back up, drop it again for effect, and maybe even have Bill fetch it.

[By the way, we have balloons too.]
