A toddler sports program has been uprooted from its park location due to complaints about noise from local residents. The Sportball program, which offered sessions at Lynndale Parkette three times a week, faced backlash over the sounds of young children engaging in playful activities.
The program, designed to introduce kids aged 16 months to 5 years to basic sports skills, typically had around five participants at a time. However, after just two weeks of operation, complaints flooded in from neighbors, prompting a city decision to move the program to a different location. Local Councillor Gary Crawford noted that some residents were upset that a permit had even been granted for the group to operate at the park.
“It’s a shame when a few voices drown out the laughter of children,” said Laura Bennett, a mother whose child participated in the program. “They’re just running around cones and having a blast.” Despite the small number of kids and their innocent antics, it seems the noise was deemed too much for some.
After receiving multiple complaints describing the environment as “unsafe and noisy,” city officials removed the program from Lynndale Park and warned organizers and parents of potential fines if they returned. “When the city tells you to relocate, you have to comply,” stated program manager, Sarah Johnson. “It’s unfortunate that a few complaints can overshadow the joy these kids bring.”
