A mother is facing significant backlash after revealing she has had intimate moments while breastfeeding.
Lila Thompson is a well-known advocate for breastfeeding, with her videos and images racking up millions of views on social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram. Recently, an older video titled “Is It Okay to Have Sex While Breastfeeding?” resurfaced and quickly went viral. In the video, Thompson candidly discusses her experiences of combining the two activities.
“I remember when my baby would doze off while breastfeeding, and my partner and I would find a way to be intimate from behind. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying intimacy. So, go ahead, embrace it, and enjoy your fantasies,” she shares.
While many may feel inclined not to judge how new parents navigate their needs, the idea of this scenario can feel a bit strange or uncomfortable for some. After the video gained traction, Thompson appeared on the British daytime show, Morning Chat, to explain her perspective.
She emphasized her baby’s strong attachment to her, saying, “If your little one is sleeping, I believe many parents find a way to be intimate. It’s a natural part of life.”
Following her appearance, viewers took to the show’s Facebook page to express their thoughts. One commenter noted, “Most mothers who breastfeed are just regular women simply nourishing their children. Why make this a taboo? I question why any woman would even share this!”
This raises a valid point. Many mothers already face challenges in feeling at ease while breastfeeding, whether at home or in public, and stories like these can contribute to the stigma surrounding it.
Another commenter shared, “I breastfed all my kids, and I can’t imagine anything less romantic than being intimate while my child is feeding! Couldn’t they just wait until the baby was done? Imagine if someone decided to be intimate at the dinner table while you were eating!”
When it comes to feeding choices, we advocate for a “you do you” approach. However, breastfeeding mothers often struggle against the sexualization of breastfeeding, and this mom’s revelations may not help the cause.
