To My Children, I Am Enough

Dear Kids,

I often find myself questioning if I am enough. Am I a good enough mom, partner, friend, or entrepreneur? It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. With three little ones under five, a mountain of laundry that seems to reach the ceiling, an overflowing inbox, and a collection of empty takeout containers reminding me that cooking is not my forte, it’s hard not to feel discouraged.

But then I look at you—my joyful, playful children. The way you gaze up at me with such love and excitement takes my breath away. In those moments, I realize maybe I truly am enough.

To My Preschooler

Sometimes I feel self-conscious about my appearance. My clothes are outdated, my hair hasn’t seen scissors in months, and my nails? Well, let’s not go there. Yet, I watch you try on my clothes and shoes, beaming at your reflection, saying, “I look pretty like Mommy.” To you, I am beautiful enough.

To My Toddler

There are days when I worry I’m not strong enough. Maybe I’ve lost some of my edge. But when I defended you against that swim instructor who wanted to dunk you, I felt you relax in my arms. To you, I am brave enough.

To My Little One

I sometimes feel guilty about how close in age you all are, wishing I could give you the same attention I gave the older two. Everything you own is a hand-me-down, but when I squeeze you into a used onesie and tickle your tummy, your laughter fills the room. To you, our family is perfect just the way it is—our family is enough.

I often long for my body to look like it did before motherhood. But when you snuggle into my neck, your eyelids fluttering closed and your breathing steadying, I know to you, I am home.

Life here isn’t perfect—there’s chaos, worry, mess, and sometimes a dinner of Cheerios (again). But maybe that’s okay. I look at you, swinging your feet and laughing with delight, and I realize that to you, I am enough.

And just like me, mamas reading this, you are enough too. If you’re curious about home insemination and pregnancy resources, you can check out this article.
