Dad learns that the galaxy is in safe hands after dressing up as Darth Vader, and his two-year-old son doesn’t even flinch.
I was thrilled to finally introduce my son to the world of “Star Wars.” I couldn’t wait to share all my favorite characters, engage in epic lightsaber battles in his bedroom, and pretend we were out there saving the galaxy, just as I did in my own childhood.
However, when the moment finally arrived for him to watch the films, my plan took an unexpected twist. Instead of fearing the infamous villain, my son developed an admiration for Darth Vader! It seems he isn’t the only little one who sees the dark lord as a hero.
On May Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day, self-proclaimed nerd dad Tom Richards decided to have some fun with his two-year-old son, Max. After getting the green light from his wife to potentially give their child a fright for life, this devoted dad suited up in an impressive Darth Vader outfit and woke Max up in full character.
Things didn’t unfold as he had imagined. Perhaps overconfidence was his downfall? The video speaks volumes.
As you can see, little Max doesn’t hesitate when the fearsome Sith Lord enters his room, poking him awake with a lightsaber. Instead of cowering, he immediately grabs his own weapon to challenge Vader! Rather than joining the dark side, Max sees the good in his father and persuades him to retreat to a rocking chair and read him a story.
Maybe it’s the influence of the prequels, the cartoons, or the decades that have passed since “Star Wars” first graced our screens, but Darth Vader seems to have lost his edge when it comes to scaring kids. Of course, perhaps Max recognized his dad and felt safe, although knowing that Darth Vader was his father didn’t exactly comfort Luke Skywalker. (Spoiler Alert!)
Kids these days are tough cookies! But it’s not surprising. My son often sneaks into my bedroom and gives me a scare far more often than I manage to frighten him. While I haven’t gone to the lengths that Tom did, his video may not have turned out as he expected, but it’s at least reassuring to know that the galaxy is in good hands. In summary, a dad’s attempt at a Darth Vader prank on his son doesn’t go as planned when the child embraces the character instead of being scared. What was meant to be a fun Star Wars moment turned into a sweet bonding experience, showcasing that sometimes, kids just surprise us with their bravery.
