A young boy has raised over $10,000 to support schools affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. This remarkable 7-year-old is proving that anyone can make a difference, even in the face of dire circumstances.

The troubles began in April 2014 when Flint officials decided to stop using Detroit’s water supply to cut costs, opting instead for water from the Flint River. Unfortunately, this decision led to widespread contamination, exposing nearly 8,657 children under six to dangerous levels of lead, according to the Detroit Free Press.

When young Liam Carter from Virginia discovered the plight of these children, he felt compelled to help. Upon reaching out to Eisenhower Elementary, he learned that the students and teachers required more than just bottled water; they needed hand sanitizer to ensure their safety. The ongoing crisis had left many afraid to use the tap water for washing hands.

Despite the challenges, Liam’s determination shone through. School secretary Mia Anderson explained to him that hand sanitizer was the most urgent need. It was alarming that this crucial issue had gone unnoticed by state officials, including the governor. Inspired by his conversation with Anderson, Liam decided to take action.

“His enthusiasm and sincerity were truly moving,” Anderson remarked. “In my 20 years working here, I’ve never met a child so eager to make a difference.”

With the support of his parents, Liam set up a GoFundMe page aiming to raise $500 to provide hand sanitizer for every classroom at Eisenhower. Thanks to the generosity of others who wanted to lend a hand, he quickly exceeded his goal, eventually raising $10,701 in just 17 days. This amount was enough to supply hand sanitizer for all 12 elementary schools in Flint. Liam plans to continue his efforts by assisting daycares and women’s shelters in the area.

“It was the best day of my life, helping another school. You don’t have to be big to do great things,” Liam shared.
