Attention Retailers: Summer Isn’t Over Yet!

Guess what’s back in stores? That’s right—school supplies. Just when I’m still reveling in summer fun—grilling burgers, slurping down watermelon, and splashing around in the pool—I find myself face-to-face with towers of crayon boxes, vibrant spiral notebooks, and all the school essentials that just scream “fall is coming.”

Retailers, can we please hit the pause button? Can we agree that it’s still SUMMER?

I’m not ready to swap out my popsicles, sunscreen, and beach toys for notebooks and protractors. My kids and I are still basking in the lazy days of summer, enjoying mornings where we can sleep in and not worry about packing lunches. When I see wide-ruled paper and rulers glaring at me from the shelves in the second week of July, it makes me a little on edge.

I’m just not prepared, folks. Not. At. All.

There are still many sunny afternoons to savor, barbecues to attend, and lemonade stands to visit. I need the rhythm of our lives to remain dictated by the seasons and not the front displays of retail stores. It’s still meant to be SUMMER, not the season for back-to-school planning. So, for now, I’m tossing away the fall catalogs and holding on to my corn on the cob and lemonade for a little while longer.

I know that in a month, once we’ve completed every summer adventure, I’ll likely be skipping down the school supply aisle, bursting with excitement for the new school year. And then, just a week later, the Christmas trees will inevitably start to appear.

In summary, while retailers might be ready to usher in the fall season, let’s not forget to embrace the remaining days of summer. Enjoy those long, lazy afternoons while you can!
