Toddlers From A to Zzz: A Parental Reflection

Toddlers are remarkable beings, akin to little sorcerers who create a unique blend of emotions that can only be described as electrifying—simultaneously awe-inspiring and daunting. The fear stems from the daily responsibility of safeguarding their well-being, coupled with the unpredictability of their actions. Yet, within this chaos lies a beauty that is unparalleled! The simple act of cuddling with a toddler can feel like a slice of paradise. Their infectious laughter has the power to transform an entire atmosphere in mere moments.

Parenting toddlers embodies a whirlwind of delightful disorder—akin to a miniature Tasmanian devil in full swing. A mere delay in choosing a flavor of yogurt can result in milk flying from the cart, followed by the proud applause of my little ones.

In these times, that’s simply how life unfolds! Oh, wait. My toddlers are the ones who crumble the cookies and then hide the pieces in the couch cushions when I’m not watching. The chaos is so breathtaking that it inspires me to express my thoughts in song! However, since my 1-year-old promptly shouts “No!” at the sound of my singing, I’ll share a poem instead.

A is for Apple

A is for apple: I’ll only eat half of one.
B is for band-aid: I’ll pretend to be hurt just to get a Minion band-aid.
C is for crayons: They make a tasty snack.
D is for dog: I give my dog open-mouthed kisses.
E is for eat: Snacks are my daily obsession.
F is for fire trucks: They fill me with so much joy, I can hardly contain it.
G is for go: I enthusiastically shout “Go!” at my mom while she gets ready.
H is for happy: If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!
I is for ironic: When I’m exhausted, I resist sleep fiercely.
J is for jam: I love to have dance parties with my mom.
K is for Kraft: Macaroni & Cheese is the best!
L is for learn: I learn while I play.
M is for Mickey Mouse: He’s my favorite!
N is for NO: Just no, to anything and everything.
O is for outside: Everything is more fun outdoors.
P is for pacifier: I’m hoping to take mine to college.
Q is for question: My favorite question is “Why?”
R is for rash: Diaper rash is absolutely the worst.
S is for seat: I like to hide snacks in my car seat.
T is for tubby: Bathtime is my bubble-eating paradise.
U is for up: When I yell “up!” please pick me up and carry me like royalty.
V is for very: I adore bouncy houses very much.
W is for wail: If I don’t get a popsicle at 6 a.m., prepare for the loudest wail!
X is for X: An X marks the treasure, right?
Y is for you: I really need you, Mom.
Z is for Zzzz… that’s the sound of bedtime. So please, don’t laugh too loud and wake my child, or I might just come over and give you a wedgie!
