In the United States, financial hardship is a reality for many families, and the term “struggling” often encompasses a range of challenges. One significant aspect of this struggle is what is termed “diaper need.” Astonishingly, one in three families in America faces difficulties affording an adequate supply of diapers.
In response to this growing concern, the White House has called for initiatives aimed at “expanding access to affordable diapers for the nation’s most vulnerable families.” Collaborations between online retailers such as Jet.com, diaper brands like Huggies, and various nonprofits are underway to address this pressing issue.
Following the President’s appeal, Huggies has pledged a substantial contribution, donating 22 million diapers to the National Diaper Bank Network. The company’s parent organization, Kimberly-Clark, has been a pioneer in tackling diaper need since becoming a founding sponsor of the Network in 2010, delivering more than 160 million diapers to date. “We are encouraged to see this urgent issue gaining national attention,” stated Mark Thompson, president of Kimberly-Clark’s North American baby and child care division.
Additionally, Huggies has launched a campaign where they will match every diaper donated through their Rewards program, up to one million diapers, potentially bringing their total donations for 2016 to 24 million.
How You Can Help
If Huggies isn’t your preferred diaper brand, there are numerous ways to contribute:
- Use the hashtag #DiaperGap on social media to raise awareness.
- Locate a diaper bank in your area for donations.
- Consider becoming a diaper distributor. Nonprofits can enroll in Jet.com’s Community Diaper Program to purchase discounted Cuties Economy Plus Packs for distribution to families in need. For those not affiliated with a nonprofit, these packs will be available for general purchase on Jet starting in late April.
The White House emphasizes that “We want every child to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.” By utilizing the resources available in today’s economy, we can ensure that no family has to choose between their child’s health and basic household needs.
