Dear Gynecologist,

Dear Gynecologist,home insemination syringe

I know it’s been a while since our last appointment, and I acknowledge that regular check-ups are crucial. I understand that I should reach out to schedule a visit, but I must confess, I’m not exactly looking forward to it, and here’s why.

The Awkward Encounter

For starters, I’m paying you to examine my intimate areas. Typically, such a personal encounter comes with a dinner date or at least some flattery. However, my experience is more about stripping down than dressing up, and I often find my clothes folded neatly on your plastic chair before you even see me in them. (My underwear is tucked away, as if that matters when you’re about to be mere inches from my vagina.)

Preparing for the Visit

I go through the usual preparations: shaving my legs and underarms, making sure everything is presentable. But instead of a cozy ambiance, I find myself in your sterile office, staring at framed flower pictures and posters about birth control and sexually transmitted infections. There’s no romantic setting, just a collection of intimidating metal instruments and a variety of tubes and gloves.

Is this meant to make me feel at ease? To be honest, it makes me anxious. I often find myself wishing for a more relaxed environment—perhaps a movie night beforehand would help.

Appreciating Your Expertise

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your expertise. After all, few can comment on the state of my cervix with such authority (thanks?). However, when you’re so close to my most private areas, I’d prefer to know more about you—like your middle name or whether you have siblings. We’re not even connected on social media! Yet here you are, deeply involved in my business.

My Hesitation

So, I apologize for my tardiness in scheduling our annual meeting. I’m not eager to place myself in those cold stirrups and present myself for examination. It’s tough to feel cheerful when I’m preoccupied with the fact that a virtual stranger is in such a personal space.

Do you understand the effort I put into my appearance? I spend ages ensuring everything is tidy, and I even use enough scented products to make your exam room smell delightful. And yes, I do my best to suppress any embarrassing noises that come with nerves!

A Suggestion for Comfort

So forgive me if I’m hesitant about your upcoming inspection. Perhaps next time, you could ease the tension with a little something to drink—I’m thinking tequila, to help make the paper gown feel more like a chic dress.
