5 Individuals I’m Grateful Not to Be on the Beach

Not that they lack beauty! They absolutely do. They are stunning. However, the level of self-awareness and unyielding perfection is overshadowed by the joy of wading through the waves in a tankini that’s losing the battle against beach pebbles and personal dishevelment.

  1. The Teenager: Whether they are fabulously slim, pleasantly plump, or perfectly average, these teens often pull at their swimsuits in disgust. It’s a shame, really, because they miss the chance to revel in their own sand-kissed vitality. Their bodies, full of energy and potential, are meant for movement, laughter, and the entirety of life’s experiences. I wish to tell them: cherish your body, for it’s the vessel of your remarkable journey.
  2. The Grad Student Duo: Engrossed in matching copies of a dense philosophical text, these two are missing the beauty of beach relaxation. I personally prefer to doze off with the remnants of a half-read humorous article imprinting on my sunscreen-slathered cheek. The beach is not the place for academic rigor!
  3. The New Parent: Sitting in a hot, sandy nursing tent, this parent waits endlessly for a simple iced coffee, all while tending to a baby in an uncomfortable swim diaper. Oh, I sympathize. Instead of enduring that heat, I recommend retreating to an air-conditioned room to unwind. The beach can wait until your child is more mobile.
  4. The Health-Conscious Mom: Forcing kale salad onto her child, who is holding up sandy hands in protest, this mom misses the essence of beach enjoyment. While I, too, strive to provide nutritious meals at home, the beach is a time for indulgence! After all, Lay’s delicious potato chips were made for moments like these.
  5. The Self-Conscious Individual: Clutching a towel around her waist to hide her beautiful legs, this person is stuck in a cycle of modesty and self-critique. I’ve been there, but let me tell you: embracing your body at any age is liberating. As someone who now enjoys the freedom of middle age, I’ve learned that few truly care about those so-called imperfections.

Reflecting on my past self, I recall feeling sorry for those embracing their unrefined nature, only to find that middle age unveiled a new level of beach happiness.

In summary, the beach is a place for joy and acceptance, free from the constraints of self-doubt and societal expectations. Embrace the moment, enjoy the waves, and leave the worries behind.
