Sharing Mother’s Day with my partner might not seem like the most traditional choice, but it’s honestly one of the best decisions we’ve made. My partner understands better than anyone that both of us deserve a break, and that’s where our special tradition comes in: we escape the house! Whether it’s brunch at our favorite spot, a leisurely shopping trip, or simply giving each other the green light to lounge around without any responsibilities, this day becomes a win-win for both of us.
Let’s face it; many husbands find themselves wandering aimlessly through stores like Target right before Mother’s Day, often settling for a generic card that reads, “You’re the best, Mom!” paired with some stale Easter candy. Luckily, my partner knows me well enough to realize what I truly want. She has an uncanny ability to find that elusive pair of shoes I’ve been hunting for months—in my exact size, no less! And she goes above and beyond to score not just one, but two perfect pairs. Who else would do that but someone who truly gets it?
Over the past couple of years, my monthly cycle has conveniently aligned with Mother’s Day. Thankfully, who better to empathize with my discomfort than my wonderful partner? I’m incredibly fortunate that she’ll rub my back while I endure cramps and bring me snacks without batting an eye at the amount of salt I consume. It makes the challenges of Mother’s Day a lot more bearable.
For our child, having two moms on this special day is an absolute delight, and I couldn’t agree more. Celebrating Mother’s Day with my partner allows me to express my gratitude for everything she does to keep our family running smoothly. In return, she shows her appreciation for me as well.
