Thoughts of a Mom Before Slumber

Thoughts of a Mom Before Slumberhome insemination syringe

As a meticulous planner by nature, I often find myself grappling with a lack of motivation when it comes to evening preparations intended to ease the following day. After an exhausting day, my brain craves relaxation, pushing me into autopilot mode where I can unwind and momentarily escape the chaos of motherhood.

However, as I settle into bed, a whirlwind of thoughts begins to flood my mind:

  • What’s on the agenda for tomorrow?
  • At what time should I set my alarm to ensure I can indulge in those snooze button moments?
  • Did I remember to prompt Alex to finish his last worksheet from the homework packet? Perhaps he can squeeze it in before the bus arrives (the thought brings a smile).
  • Will we need to return any library books tomorrow? Are there repairs I should address?
  • What needs to go into the kids’ lunches?
  • Tomorrow is spirit color day at school, and I believe his designated shirt is crumpled in the laundry basket near the dryer. I can give it a quick press in the morning.
  • Two nights from now, we have an event scheduled, and I still lack a babysitter. On a scale of 1 to 10, how essential is my attendance?
  • I need to prepare a covered dish for this weekend. Do I have sufficient ingredients at home, or will I need to make a grocery run?
  • I stayed up too late yet again. I sincerely hope the youngest doesn’t wake up at 4 a.m. to join us in bed. Sleep is essential.
  • Has that individual responded to my last email?
  • What amount should we contribute to the PTO? I appreciate that the school offers this option instead of traditional fundraisers.
  • The living room is in complete disarray.
  • I hope I’m not too late to reserve the venue for Alex’s birthday celebration; he’s been looking forward to it.
  • Oh no, I dread the thought of Alex actually recalling his 8th birthday as a letdown due to my oversight.
  • The boys shared such sweet moments tonight, creating a memory I’ll cherish—seeing them sprawled on the floor surrounded by toys and snack remnants.
  • Did I ever return that large soup bowl to the woman from church? What became of it? Was she kind enough to provide us with soup on that occasion?
  • The apples in the fridge are nearing their expiration. Perhaps I should prepare an apple crisp.
  • I ought to do something kind for someone tomorrow; there’s a small box in the laundry room. Maybe I can transform it into a care package.
  • Did I remember to cancel that Amazon subscription for dishwasher tablets? We have far too many now; I made a similar mistake with diapers once.
  • The Diaper Genie might just need to meet its demise to celebrate our potty training success. It’s become quite a nuisance with its stuck foot pedal.
  • We should really consider getting rid of that pedal car in the garage, as it no longer captures the kids’ interest. What else can I clear out?
  • I hope my relatives in Kansas are doing well tonight, along with our sponsored child, Ravi. I wonder if he has everything he needs and is heading to bed contentedly. Is he sleeping in comfort?
  • Thank you, Lord, for the countless blessings in our lives and for this beautiful yet chaotic journey. Please watch over our family in Oklahoma, especially with storms forecasted. And could you also… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
