I have to admit, I’ve never been drawn to adult entertainment—not even once! I’ve never felt the urge to pay for those exclusive channels while staying at a hotel, and my internet history is firmly rooted in family-friendly content. Why would I pay for outdated adult content when a fresh and completely wholesome alternative is available for free?
Simply flip to channel 665 (HGTV in HD on my screen), and you’ll see exactly what I mean. You’ll find yourself captivated by stunning soapstone kitchen islands, sleek subway tile backsplashes, and charmingly mismatched floors in inviting entryways. Custom shoe racks nestled in walk-in closets that are more aesthetically pleasing and organized than any professional kitchen? Absolutely. Don’t even get me started on the closets. I’m endlessly enchanted.
Countless hours disappear as I find myself glued to the screen, anxiously anticipating whether the charming family of three (soon to be four!) will choose to Love It or List It. I usually lean toward loving it. Who could resist the stunning makeover of a dreary basement transformed into a chic game room, productive office, inviting guest space, and full bathroom? It’s simply awe-inspiring!
I’m also thoroughly infatuated with the Property Brothers as they work their magic on a dated 1970s Cape Cod, turning it into the dream home for a bright-eyed couple eager to stay close to the city while accommodating their dogs, yoga sessions, and even a music room. All that and on a budget that might just cover a sensible new HVAC system—if I’m lucky. And the speed at which the Property Brothers accomplish these feats? Comparable to how long it took me to declutter my garage last spring!
While I may not always see eye to eye with every design choice made by my favorite HGTV personalities, I remain utterly fascinated by their creations. For example, media rooms, expansive garages, and custom fire pits might not appeal to me personally, but they certainly resonate with others, and I can appreciate that diversity.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. A recent girls’ night out with my college friends led to a lengthy discussion about our latest late-night viewing habits. Some of my friends introduced me to shows like Rehab Addict and Fixer Upper. Have you seen how the Addict can transform a fireplace? It should be illegal!
While I recognize there are more productive uses of my time, I also realize there are worse ways to spend it, right? So for now, I’ll continue indulging in HGTV until the House Hunters discover that perfect bungalow, ideally situated near the water and park, and well within budget. That works for me!
