The Pre-Mother’s Day Celebration

You’ve likely heard the saying, “happy wife, happy life,” and there’s certainly truth to that. But let’s not forget: a happy MOM is absolutely essential. This is why I’ve always found Mother’s Day to be a bit ironic—not in a humorous way, but rather in the sense that I often find myself dealing with the everyday challenges of parenting on a day that is supposed to be mine.

Now, before the naysayers jump in with their comments about gratitude and the blessings of motherhood—yes, I understand! I appreciate the joy of raising children every single day. So why must we carry the weight of it all on our one designated day? This is precisely why I advocate for a Pre-Mother’s Day celebration.

Years ago, a friend introduced me to this concept, and it has changed my perspective entirely. She shared how she and her friends gather at a lovely resort near Los Angeles the day before Mother’s Day to indulge in champagne, sunbathing, and conversation—all without kids. Some even treat themselves to massages! At the end of the day, some women head home while others opt to stay overnight.

To those who might be feeling irked, I understand your frustration. Mother’s Day is indeed special, with its breakfasts in bed and homemade gifts. However, let’s not overlook the sheer delight of a Pre-Mother’s Day celebration.

Dads, pay attention because this could be your golden ticket. You will earn major brownie points by organizing this! Think of it as an investment in your relationship. Last year, one of my friend’s partners booked a suite at a local resort, allowing us a day of relaxation by the pool followed by a fun evening filled with laughter and good wine. The next day, the dads showed up with the kids, and everyone was in high spirits.

Picture us painting each other’s nails or having a playful pillow fight. We enjoyed each other’s company, and it didn’t matter how we spent our time together. The husband who planned this outing was revered among the other dads, who now feel inspired to replicate this tradition.

And guess what follows, fathers? Father’s Day! Those golf clubs you’ve been eyeing? You may just receive them. Plus, you could end up with a full day to use them. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Of course, there is one potential downside to the Pre-Mother’s Day celebration: you might not feel 100% on the actual Mother’s Day. But I have two words for you: Gatorade and Ibuprofen. You’re welcome! Now, go ahead and spread the love of the Pre-Mother’s Day celebration.

In summary, a Pre-Mother’s Day celebration offers mothers a chance to unwind and connect with friends, paving the way for a more enjoyable actual Mother’s Day. This simple yet effective idea not only benefits mothers but also fosters stronger family dynamics, setting the stage for upcoming celebrations like Father’s Day.
