Babies are intriguing creatures, primarily because they lack the ability to articulate their thoughts. Once my son learns to communicate, I suspect he’ll have plenty to say about our household dynamics, including my questionable parenting choices. For instance, he might express his disdain for my habit of serving cold milk, leaving him with a jarring head rush. Moreover, there are several behaviors of mine that likely come off as quite peculiar from his perspective.
Here are ten ways I believe I may be unsettling him on a daily basis:
- I Monitor His Sleep: I find myself gazing at him while he sleeps. Though video monitors are standard, can you imagine drifting off to dreamland knowing someone is observing you?
- I Have an Unusual Craving for His Cheeks and Toes: I can’t help but refer to these adorable features as “edible.” While there’s scientific reasoning behind this maternal instinct, it still sounds rather odd.
- I’m Obsessively Interested in His Diaper Contents: The frequency, color, and consistency of his poop captivate me.
- I Capture His Every Move: I take an excessive number of pictures and videos, amassing an extensive collection in just a few months. You know those crime dramas where the villain has a wall of photos? That could be me, but with love. Plus, the silly sounds I make to elicit smiles for these photos are a bit over the top.
- I Sometimes Skip Showers: I can feel his judgment when I don’t manage to freshen up. Honestly, I would be shocked if a caregiver neglected personal hygiene!
- I Taste-Test His Food: Before serving him baby food, I have to sample it myself. If I’m investing in organic options, I want to ensure it’s palatable.
- I Refer to Myself in the Third Person: This habit is probably more amusing than endearing to him.
- I Use a Backseat Mirror for Eye Contact: His car seat is rear-facing, so I installed a mirror to maintain eye contact while driving. A bit intense, perhaps?
- I Dress Him Based on My Mood: My choices for his outfits often reflect my emotional state, with grays for gloomy days and bright colors when I’m feeling cheerful.
- I Speak for Him: I often make up whimsical narratives about how he feels. If I were in his position, I would find it incredibly frustrating! “Mommy is a little fussy today because she’s sooo tired and could really use a nap!”
