The 2014 Thanksgiving Initiative: A Reflection on Results

I must admit, dear readers, I had my doubts.

In the weeks leading up to this year’s Thanksgiving initiative, anxiety overtook me as I feared we might not reach our fundraising goal. With so many worthy causes competing for attention and resources, it felt like a daunting task. Despite a steady influx of generous donations, the number of applications surpassed our expectations, leaving us struggling to keep pace.

As I started drafting messages of apology, it became clear that not every request for assistance could be met. I was bracing myself for disappointment. But against all odds, we succeeded.

We raised an astounding $114,516 in less than a month, enabling us to support 2,152 families in need of Thanksgiving meals. We did it!

To everyone who contributed to this initiative, whether through donations or by sharing the cause, thank you. Your trust in our community and belief in the power of collective action made a significant difference.

You should have received, or will soon receive, an email detailing the family you are supporting. If you haven’t seen anything by November 21 (especially important for tax records), please reach out through the appropriate channels, and we will ensure you get the information promptly.

I would also like to express my gratitude to InteliSpend Prepaid Solutions for their seamless handling of gift card distribution. Their professionalism was commendable and we look forward to future collaborations. A special shoutout to Nehemiah Manufacturing Co for their exceptional social media efforts that amplified our message.

Thanks to WhatsUpMoms for creating a remarkable book trailer, with proceeds benefiting our Thanksgiving initiative. We are grateful to Glennon Melton’s non-profit, Together Rising, for their unwavering support. If you missed the chance to contribute to our Thanksgiving effort, I encourage you to explore their Holiday Hands program, which is equally impactful.

I’d like to acknowledge a few individuals personally: my co-authors who donated their book proceeds and embraced this cause wholeheartedly, the moderators who rallied the community, and the dedicated team behind the scenes who kept everything running smoothly.

Lastly, I want to thank dedicated individuals for their year-round commitment to making Thanksgiving special for families in need; their passion is truly inspiring. I couldn’t have done this without you.

Once again, thank you to everyone for believing in this initiative, even when I had my doubts. I should have known better.

Wishing all of us a joyful Thanksgiving.
