Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching over a thousand students. They come from diverse backgrounds—some are of various ethnicities, varying heights, and different orientations. I have had the joy of encountering those who are humorous, dramatic, brilliant, dyslexic, artistic, athletic, and everything in between.
I have witnessed their growth as they learn to express themselves, face challenges, and navigate the complexities of life. I have shared in their grief and celebrated their triumphs, treating their experiences as if they were my own. I have risen before dawn and worked late into the night to ensure they are prepared for the next steps in their journey. I have challenged them to confront realities and encouraged them to strive for their highest potential.
Each day presents new challenges, as my students come to me with unique needs and perspectives. It is my privilege to assist them in articulating their narratives, uncovering their best selves, and learning to endure the realities of a world that often suggests they are insufficient. I believe in their capabilities wholeheartedly; they have the power to create change and achieve greatness if they choose to pursue it. At times, my unwavering hope for them serves as the sole anchor in an increasingly chaotic environment.
I have faced criticism from those who question my methods and intentions. The external pressures can be overwhelming, but I remain steadfast in my commitment to nurture the love and creativity that my students deserve. I continually strive to provide them with the support they need, resisting the influence of those who don’t understand my perspective.
I dedicate my time and resources to their well-being, often sacrificing my own needs in the process. I frequently find myself awake in the early hours, consumed with thoughts of their safety and happiness. Every day, I give them my energy, compassion, and encouragement.
I do this because each one of them matters to me.
