If you’re a woman over 25, chances are you were an NSYNC fan—or at the very least, you know who they are, can sing along to a few of their hits, and probably have a friend who was absolutely obsessed. If any of this resonates with you, then you’re likely aware that the group has been on an official “hiatus” since 2002. Over the past 15 years, some members have stayed in the spotlight more than others.
While they’ve reunited on special occasions (most recently for JC Chasez’s 40th birthday bash last August), their last major public appearance was at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. It was a memorable night when Justin Timberlake received the Video Vanguard Award, and the guys joined him on stage to perform “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye.” Timberlake even took a moment to express his gratitude for the group, recalling some of his most iconic moments at MTV. It was nothing short of epic.
Die-hard fans (like yours truly) have been anxiously awaiting the day when the guys would stage a full comeback, especially considering that many of their contemporaries (cough Backstreet Boys cough) have successfully regrouped in the past five years. While we’ve had glimpses of hope (like that late-night pic Justin posted from JC’s birthday that made headlines the following morning), the group has made it clear that it would take something truly special for them to reunite as a band again. Well, folks, the moment we’ve been waiting for might finally be upon us, or so says Lance Bass.
In a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight, Bass dropped two exciting bombshells: 1) The group is gearing up to release a special edition of their 1998 Christmas album Home for Christmas on vinyl next year to celebrate its 20th anniversary (can you believe it’s been 20 years already?!) and 2) They will be making a public appearance together this year! Yes, you read that right—cue the excited screams. I literally danced around my house like I was back in high school waiting for my latest issue of a teen magazine.
They’re set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year (it’s about time!), once they coordinate their schedules and finalize a date. Seriously, everyone, try to keep the excitement down; we don’t want to wake the kids!
Bass also mentioned that the guys keep in touch regularly. Despite Justin Timberlake’s infamous “ramen noodle” hairstyle being a popular subject for memes, the group mostly spends their time teasing Joey Fatone via their group chat. “All we do is bag on each other all day long,” he shared.
So, gents, we’re pleading with you: get it together (yes, we know Justin is busy being a superstar, and we love that, but solo JT needs to hit pause for a moment) and pick a date so we can all come together and collectively freak out. In a world filled with uncertainty, this is precisely the kind of joy we need right now.
