It’s time to prepare for another round of heartfelt moments, as a sequel to the beloved film, Love Actually, is on the horizon. Nostalgia reigns supreme in today’s entertainment landscape, with iconic shows from the late ’90s and early 2000s making their return. Just look at Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life or Fuller House. Now, the next classic film set to grace our screens once more is none other than the ultimate romantic tale: Love Actually.
However, before you get too excited, it’s important to note that this revival isn’t a full-fledged sequel. Let’s be real; Love Actually is a masterpiece that doesn’t need a sequel and we certainly don’t want to tarnish its legacy. Instead, the original cast is reuniting for a brief 10-minute short film aimed at supporting a worthy cause: Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. This annual event encourages celebrities to don red clown noses to raise awareness and funds to fight childhood poverty, and it has successfully generated over $1 billion globally to date.
The short will bring back nearly all the notable actors from the 2003 classic, including Jack Turner, Emma Brooks, Colin Frost, Liam Peters, Bill Knight, and many others. Sadly, we won’t see Alan River, who passed away last year, or Emma Thompson, who portrayed his character’s wife in the film.
Director Richard Curtis is returning to helm this mini-sequel, and he assures fans that it will capture the essence of the original. “I never imagined writing a sequel to Love Actually, but a 10-minute glimpse into what everyone is up to now seemed like a fun idea,” Curtis shared. “Who do you think has aged the best? It’s gotta be Liam, right? We’re thrilled that so many cast members could join us, and it’ll be nostalgic to step back into their roles 14 years later.”
