8 Gifts I’m Treating Myself to This Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, my kids inevitably start asking what I want for Christmas. But let’s be honest, this question is often a bit of a trap. Instead of responding with something selfless like, “Oh, I don’t need anything!”—which, by the way, is a response I’ve only seen in movies—I’m usually stuck in the frenzy of holiday shopping and gift-wrapping.

Unlike those zen parents who seem to have found enlightenment amid the chaos, I have a wish list that includes a variety of things, some of which I know my kids would never consider getting for me. Sure, I appreciate the handmade gifts—like the hand-painted mugs that proclaim me “Best Mom Ever”—but let’s face it, I have a few personal desires that are not made of craft materials. So this year, I’m taking matters into my own hands and treating myself! Here are the eight gifts I’m giving myself this holiday season:

  1. Unlimited Peppermint Mochas
While everyone else fights over the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, I’m all about the peppermint mocha. Yes, I’ll take whipped cream, thank you very much! This year, I’m indulging in these festive beverages as often as I like—because nothing fuels the holiday shopping frenzy better than a little caffeine boost. #NoRegrets
  2. Enjoying My Coffee While It’s Hot
One of my dreams is to actually finish my morning coffee while it’s still warm. With three kids constantly needing breakfast or attention, this rarely happens. But this season, I’m declaring it a priority! Kids, eat those leftover gingerbread cookies and let me savor my mug of joy in peace.
  3. Chair Massages
You know those people who offer chair massages in stores? I’m all about it! Even though I dream of a luxurious spa day with a hot stone massage, I’ll settle for a quick 10-minute neck massage while I’m out shopping. It’s a small indulgence that can make a world of difference in my day.
  4. Fresh Undergarments
Let’s face it; I always need new underwear, yet it’s not something anyone thinks to buy for me. My kids don’t seem to grasp the importance of shopping for comfy yet stylish briefs, and my husband knows better than to choose the lacy stuff that’s not practical for everyday life. Time for a solo trip to the intimates section!
  5. A New Signature Scent
Never, and I mean never, let your kids pick out your perfume. You’ll end up with something that smells like a circus mishap. This year, I’m taking charge and heading to a fragrance counter to find something that truly represents me.
  6. Full Control of the Car Stereo
December is officially “Mom’s Music Month.” For 31 glorious days, I’m in charge of the car radio. Whether it’s holiday tunes or 80’s rock, I’ll play what I want, and the kids can either enjoy it or deal with it.
  7. Binge-Watching on Netflix
Have you seen the latest season of The Crown? Me neither, but that’s about to change. I’m planning to sneak away to my room for some dedicated binge-watching time, fully equipped with snacks and my favorite blanket. If anyone asks, I’ll be “wrapping presents.”
  8. Takeout Nights
Less time in the kitchen means more time for Netflix, so yes, we’ll be ordering pizza again. It’s a win-win for everyone involved, and the kids will just have to consider it an early holiday treat.

By the end of my self-gifting spree, I’ll have checked off everything on my wish list. Now, I just have to wonder what my kids will surprise me with this year. Maybe I’ll even welcome another handmade mug, as long as it’s adorned with those cherished handprints.
