Oh boy, I had the best sleep ever! Sure, I woke up Mommy five times to tell her about the spooky shadows in my room that looked like a monster, but I just knew she’d want to know. I mean, she must’ve missed me a lot while I was dreaming! When she hugged me tightly that last time, I could tell I was right. She really needs me around at night to keep her company.
Last night, I dreamed about a bear, some swings, and a really funny crooked house. I can’t wait to share that with my parents; they love listening to me talk! And I love hearing myself too! I have so many important things to share and songs to sing. Let’s get the fun started!
Today is my first day of preschool, and I must look fantastic! That dress Mommy picked out? No way! It was cute in the store, but now it just feels gloomy. I think I can even smell her hopes on it. Yuck! Plus, she knows I decided I don’t like blue anymore—like, yesterday!
I found the perfect outfit! A special day like today definitely deserves wings, gloves, a crown, and every single hair barrette I own. Oh, and my Christmas dress and snow boots too because why not? My outfit sparkles, and I adore sparkles! It twirls perfectly, just like I love to do. I feel like a princess, and all my dreams are coming true. I bet fairies cried to make this, and unicorns are probably jealous of me right now!
Time to make a grand entrance down the stairs like a true princess at a magical ball. Wow, Mommy looks a bit rough this morning. I should probably mention it to her later, maybe while we’re at the grocery store. She seems like she might be hiding a baby in her tummy too!
Mommy is never fancy, which makes me sad for her. She always wears black jeans and those old sneakers, even though I’ve seen those bright red high heels in her closet! When I grow up to be a mommy, I’m going to wear ball gowns, wedding dresses, and those dazzling red heels every single day. I won’t let my dreams of being the most beautiful fairy lady ever fade away. Or maybe I’ll be a mermaid! I once saw a glittery mermaid, and she was amazing!
Daddy finally noticed me standing on the stairs. I’m giving them a shy smile like, “Oh! I didn’t see you there, Mommy and Daddy. But since you’re here, why not admire my wonderful presence?” They look at me kind of funny.
Mommy says, “You look very, um, colorful?” She appears tired when she says this. “Do you think you’re ever going to wear that new dress, or should I take it back to the store?” I think about how magical that dress looked on the hanger. I can tell by the way she’s looking at me that I need to choose my words wisely.
“Maybe tomorrow?” I respond, and then I start to twirl!
Parent Note:
These moments really captured how my child’s creativity flows. I hope we can channel all that energy into something wonderful one day, maybe even the next president or a superstar like Beyoncé! When I see you at the grocery store, your child in an Elsa costume and mine looking like an extra in a toddler circus, let’s share a knowing look. We’re all in this together.
