Last night’s Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead sent shockwaves through the entire online community, leaving everyone in an absolute emotional tailspin. After a five-month wait, fans were finally hit with the brutal truth of who fell victim to Negan’s infamous bat, Lucille. The sheer weight of this revelation hit me like a ton of bricks, so let’s unpack all the feelings that surfaced during this highly anticipated episode.
I’ll be honest: my go-to method for enjoying The Walking Dead is binge-watching on Netflix, which naturally means I’m usually a season behind the rest of the world. But last night, I couldn’t resist diving in. Would the writers stick to the comic’s storyline or take a different route? Just five minutes before the show, my anxiety was off the charts—think Kermit-level stress.
Honestly, I can hardly recount the first twenty minutes because I was completely overwhelmed by the chaos that ensued. Then came Negan’s cruel game of “eenie, meenie, miney, moe” as Abraham met a gruesome fate. His final stand included the memorable line, “suck my nuts,” which briefly gave me hope. Abraham may not have been my favorite character, but he certainly didn’t deserve that.
As Rick stood there, bloodied and traumatized, Negan taunted Rosita, demanding she look at Lucille. Daryl, ever the protector, couldn’t hold back and punched Negan, which only intensified my anxiety. Realizing the episode still had plenty of time left, I found solace in scrolling through kitten gifs on Twitter for a much-needed distraction.
The events unfolded through Rick’s eyes, as flashbacks revealed the horrific deaths of Abraham and Glenn. Negan, with his sadistic charm, was relentless, especially when he threatened Rick with his son Carl’s safety. In a moment of heart-stopping tension, Negan forced Rick to consider cutting off Carl’s arm to save the rest of the group. Thankfully, he stopped Rick just in time, leaving us all gasping for breath.
The episode wrapped up with a haunting vision of what could have been—a peaceful dinner scene with Glenn at the head of the table, cradling a baby. It’s a stark reminder of the fragility of hope in the brutal world of The Walking Dead.
