Dear Beloved Belly,
Lately, it seems we’ve been at odds. I’ve been distant, trying to tuck you away under layers of tight fabric. Let’s be honest—I’ve been a bit of a jerk, embracing you one moment and then pulling you in the next.
I know it might seem like I’ve turned over a new leaf only to lure you into a trap of Pilates torture led by some overly enthusiastic former dancer who thinks neon leotards are still a thing. But trust me, my dear belly, this isn’t a trick.
This is about acceptance. It’s time for us to embrace our softer selves. Remember when we were tight and toned before the kiddos came along? Oh, how those little ones can change the game! We used to work out together for hours, fueled by dreams of six-pack abs. Now, it feels like we’ve lost that spark.
I realize I’ve gotten a bit too cozy with my routines. Yes, I admit that! But you need to lower your expectations as well. Glancing longingly at that midriff-baring top in my closet—the one that’s more suited for a wild night out than for my current reality—doesn’t help us either. And let’s not even get started on those Rag & Bone jeans that seem to have shrunk in the wash. They squeeze me so tight that I can’t breathe without risking a wardrobe malfunction!
So here we are, my dear belly. Yes, we have a mountain of issues to tackle, like that pile of old fitness magazines I keep meaning to read. But let’s get real; I’m a busy mom now! Finding the time to replicate those perfectly posed models’ workouts on my living room floor is a challenge.
You’ve only ever seen the flat, idealized version of me, but I’m a three-dimensional being! If we keep heading in this direction, there might be even more of me to love—so why not embrace it?
This is my love letter to you, sweet belly, acknowledging every little quirk you have—those delightful dimples and the way you’ve stretched to accommodate life and love. I don’t weigh any more than I used to, yet those charming side handles have made themselves known! And instead of hiding them, let’s celebrate who we are.
Belly, can we grow old together? And by grow, I mean let ourselves flourish in our own way. Happiness lies in accepting each other as we are.
Yours (literally),
Megan
