For the past few weeks, I’ve been battling a relentless illness. My throat felt like sandpaper, my nose was more congested than a blocked drain, and my sinuses were thumping like a bad drum solo. To top it off, I’ve been coughing up some rather unpleasant green stuff (sorry about that visual). Given that my son has been suffering from strep throat and an ear infection, it’s no surprise that I ended up catching something nasty too. Last week, after finally succumbing to antibiotics for a sinus infection, I was starting to feel a little better. Just in time, of course, for my husband to get hit with the dreaded sickness.
Now, let me clarify—I adore my husband. I genuinely believe we are meant to be together; without him, my life would be incomplete. However, when he falls ill, I often find myself daydreaming about escaping with our kids and leaving him behind. What’s a gal to do?
You would have thought he was facing his last moments yesterday. Fast forward fifty years, and I can picture him on his death bed, looking as woeful as he did all weekend. “I’m sick,” he lamented, barely mustering the strength to rise from bed. He made a pilgrimage to the local clinic for some antibiotics and, of course, a hefty dose of sympathy. An hour later, he called, sounding utterly defeated. “Did they give you anything?” I asked, half-expecting good news. “No,” he whimpered. “The strep test was negative, and she said it can’t be a sinus infection if it just started.”
So, there it was. It’s just a cold. (A man-cold, to be precise.) Someone, please rescue me. I’m not sure either of us will survive this week.

Summary
In summary, the everyday struggles of dealing with a sick partner can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re already unwell. While love is a beautiful thing, it can also lead to moments of sheer exasperation. Remember, when the man-cold strikes, just breathe, and know you’re not alone.
