One father’s hilarious recounting of his wife’s labor has taken the internet by storm, bringing laughter to those who have experienced the chaos of childbirth.
Sharing birth stories is an essential bonding experience for new moms. You’ll find them swapping tales during baby music classes, at the park, or even while waiting in line at the grocery store. Much like gathering around a campfire to share ghost stories, these conversations can be both entertaining and a bit terrifying.
However, it’s crucial to remember that while mothers are the ones going through the physical ordeal, they’re not the only ones in the delivery room.
Jake Miller, a dad who blogs under the name Fatherhood Unplugged, recently shared a side-splitting post on social media detailing the birth of his son, Leo, from a dad-to-be’s perspective.
“I always considered myself pretty chill under pressure,” he wrote. “But when I got the call that my wife’s water had broken, everything changed. The thrill of becoming a dad quickly vanished because, oh my god, a tiny human was about to make an entrance!”
Jake’s brutally honest account of his sheer panic during the delivery resonates with many parents. He earned major husband points by speeding to the hospital when his wife’s contractions started, ignoring traffic rules along the way. But upon their arrival, he quickly realized that not everyone shared his level of panic.
“I parked as fast as I could, rang the buzzer like it was a fire alarm, and raced my wife in a wheelchair to the maternity ward like I was competing in the Olympics,” he recalled. “Then this woman casually strolled over and opened the door for us like it was just another day at the book club. Meanwhile, I felt like I’d run a marathon!”
He also candidly remarked on how childbirth is infinitely messier than anything you learn in parenting classes. “You think you know love until you’re washing your naked partner down with warm water in front of total strangers. It felt like something out of a nature documentary. At that point, dignity was a lost cause,” he joked – not exactly the sentiment you’d want in a heartfelt anniversary card, but kudos to him for stepping up when it mattered most.
Jake hit the nail on the head when he described how the birthing classes he attended did little to prepare him for the actual labor experience. “When your wife is practically breaking your arm, demanding an epidural like she’s possessed, and it’s too late for that… well, you’re in trouble. I’ll just say it, those classes were a joke. We should have been watching ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ – I’d at least have known what to expect and brought some holy water for good measure.”
Ultimately, his son Leo arrived healthy and safe. Jake described the experience as both beautiful and utterly wild, but he firmly believes other fathers-to-be have every right to be anxious. “If you know any guys pretending not to be anxious, tell them they should be very worried. Or send them my way – I’m basically a pro now.”

In summary, Jake’s story serves as a hilarious reminder of the unexpected chaos that can accompany childbirth, illustrating that while moms bear the brunt of the physical challenge, dads have their own unique battles to fight in the delivery room.
